Privacy Policy
LoanMe ("we", "us", or "our") operates the LoanMe mobile application and related web services. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use LoanMe.
Information we collect
- Account information: When you sign up or sign in, our authentication provider (Clerk) may collect your email address, phone number, name, profile image, and sign-in method (such as Sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple). We receive a user identifier and basic profile fields needed to operate your account.
- Loan and payment data: Information you enter about loans, installments, payments, notes, invites, notifications, report-access requests, and payment proof images you choose to attach. This may include names, amounts, dates, and free-text notes you provide about counterparties.
- Payment handles: If you choose to add them, your PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, Chime, or Zelle usernames or contacts, or a Bitcoin address, are stored so counterparties can pay you. We do not process payments or connect to your financial accounts. Bitcoin amounts are calculated from a live price we fetch from CoinGecko; we never hold funds or take custody of any crypto.
- Device and usage data: We store a device push token (via Expo) to deliver mobile notifications, and our hosting providers may process standard server logs (IP address, request timestamps, user agent) for security, debugging, and reliability.
How we use information
- Provide, maintain, and improve LoanMe
- Authenticate you and secure your account
- Sync loan records between you and invited counterparties
- Send in-app and push notifications related to loans, payments, and access requests
- Store device push tokens (Expo) to deliver mobile alerts when you are not in the app
- Respond to support requests and legal obligations
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not send loan invite email or SMS on your behalf; you share invites using your device.
- We do not use your loan data for third-party advertising.
Sharing with service providers
We use trusted processors to run the service, including:
- Clerk — authentication, identity, and profile management (including verification messages and webhook delivery via Svix)
- Railway — application hosting and PostgreSQL database infrastructure
- Expo (Expo Application Services) — mobile app builds, over-the-air updates, and push notification delivery
- Google — Sign in with Google (authentication, via Clerk)
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, push notification delivery on iOS (Apple Push Notification service), and App Store distribution
These providers process data only to deliver the service on our behalf and are subject to their own privacy policies and security practices.
Payment apps
LoanMe does not move money or process payments. When you choose to pay a counterparty, you do so directly through a third-party app such as PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, Chime, or Zelle — either by tapping a link we build from the saved username, or by copying the saved handle into that app. For Bitcoin, we fetch a live BTC/USD price from CoinGecko to convert the amount and open your own wallet with a payment request; the transfer happens entirely between you, the recipient, and the Bitcoin network. Those apps and services are operated by their own companies under their own terms and privacy policies; LoanMe is not a party to the payment.
Data retention
We retain account and loan data while your account is active and as needed to provide the service, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and comply with law. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us (see Support).
Security
We use industry-standard measures including encrypted transport (HTTPS), authenticated API access, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
Your choices and rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal data, or to object to certain processing. Contact us at [email protected] to make a request.
Children's privacy
LoanMe is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
International users
Your information may be processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. By using LoanMe, you consent to this processing.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the effective date above.
